Thrift Store Best Decor Ideas and Flea Market Decorating (2024)

Hey, y’all, it’s time again for Thrifting with the Gals, and I’m sharing my best thrift store decor ideas with you today. This includes my favorite vintage pieces and how I use them in my flea market decorating style.

In addition, all my friends are sharing their tips as well. If you are joining me from Ann at Dabbling and Decorating, I’m so glad you are here. Ann and I have such similar taste and I’m always amazed at how many treasures we have alike.

Each week we take you along on our thrift store and vintage shopping trips on Instagram. But today, we share tips on using those thrift store finds here on the blog.

Decorating on a budget is my favorite way to decorate, and thrifting is like a treasure hunt.

Thrifted Favorites

This is one of my favorite thrifted corners in our DIY Greenhouse. The ironstone wall planter was a surprise find at a Goodwill Donation Center. The chandelier is my favorite find because it was free at a Habitat for Humanity Restore.

In addition, I’ve been collecting vintage flower frogs for a few years and the chippy planter was a great deal at a vintage sale. For a full greenhouse tour, see 9 DIY Greenhouse Decor Ideas and Summer tour.

Another favorite and unexpected find was this primitive, weathered cupboard that was a shocking $35.00. Although I didn’t know it then, it’s perfect in our outdoor kitchen because its chippy paint closely resembles the greens in our vintage cook stove and refrigerator. See Vintage Outdoor Decor Ideas for more details.

It’s important to remember that when out thrifting, you will run across items that you have no clue where you plan to use them. However, don’t hesitate if you know it’s a good deal because you will always find a spot for something you truly love.

Thrift Store Tableware

One of my favorite things to look for at thrift stores is any tableware. My biggest weakness is pretty dishes, glasses and serving pieces.

In addition, candlesticks, silverware, containers for centerpieces, napkins and linens are also favorites. So basically anything to do with a table. LOL

The table below is almost 100% thrifted and most of the items were such great deals. How to Set an Outdoor Dinner Table is one of my favorite tablescapes to date.

I rarely know that I’m getting a steal until after the fact. For example, the sweet pink floral dishes got a huge response when I shared them on How to Set a Table for a Garden Party.

A Promise of Spring included this romantic tablescape with vintage dishes, vintage napkins & tablecloth that were all inexpensive because they were thrifted.

Thrift Store Decor Collections

Y’all already know that I love my rolling pin collection and they are all thrifted. The thrifted small crocks and vintage tool box are perfect for displaying this collection.

I love the combination of copper, woods and whites. The open shelving in my kitchen is rarely displayed with anything else. The sweet butter mold was a steal for only $3.00.

How to Display Thrift Store Collections will give you some great tips on displaying all types of vintage collections.

In addition, I filled my DIY Plate Rack with thrifted ironstone platters and dishes, wooden bread boards and thrifted copper pieces.

Another favorite thrift store find was the huge covered basket. When I couldn’t see a tag, I assumed it was sold. Upon further inspection, I saw the $5.00 tag and did a happy dance all the way to the cash register.

It’s important to move your vintage pieces to different areas of your home to keep them feeling fresh. Below is the first spot I placed the basket after bringing it home.

Vintage Porch Decor

I love decorating my porches. However, items left exposed to dampness can deteriorate quickly. Therefore, I look for inexpensive things to use on the porches, and thrift stores are perfect for finding cheap pieces. When you’ve not invested much money, you don’t mind if they become damaged over time.

The bird print was only $1.00, and I’m using it for the second year. It still looks great. Well worth the investment for porch decor.

Look For Imperfect Pieces

You can get great deals on pieces that are broken or missing parts. I gravitate to items like that because I can always find a place for them.

The gutted-out cabinet piece was only $30.00, and I love displaying my dishes and other ironstone pieces on it. I don’t care that the back and doors are missing.

This cabinet was missing its door, and it was a steal. I didn’t need a door anyway. It’s perfect for displaying on our front porch.
