A few days ago we got to know about a theory that could help understand dark energy. Where? In Limpertsberg in a presentation of Prof. Alexandre Tkatchenko!Theoretical physics might not be your cup of tea, but every month you can take part in numerous science lectures, presentations and conferences that might broaden your horizons. On 8th May from 13.00 to 14.00 you can look in more detail at commitment politics and populism during a lunchtime seminar at the Kirchberg campus (with Prof. Massimo Morelli from Università Bocconi). On 16th May from 19.00 to 20.00 in Ettelbruck, Prof. Michael Heneka (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) - University of Luxembourg) will talk about scientific advances in #dementia research. You can also:❇️ get to know more about war games on 13th May from 13.00 to 16.30 in Maison des Sciences Humaines in Belval – play session included❇️ learn more about international space law on 15th and 16th May at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) - University of Luxembourg❇️ discover sustainable construction at the Neobuild GIE in Bettembourg on 23rd May from 8.30 to 18.30.Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) - University of Luxembourg Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) SES Satellites#sciencecommunication #scicomm #scienceoutreach #Luxembourg

Are you a teacher at a primary school in Luxembourg? Or a parent who would like to find additional activities to do with their children? Or just a curious mind? There’s a brand new resource for you made by science.lu and SCRIPT!If you are a teacher, very clearly described and illustrated scientific experiments can be found in a book that you can order as a teacher via the ministry. If you’re not a teacher – the materials are also available online. The descriptions are not in English, but German and French. If these are not your languages, you may treat it as a good opportunity to learn from very interesting texts. What is also great about them is that they always start with a question – guiding us through the scientific method and making hypotheses.🎈Time to blow some balloons or learn how our taste works! 😝More info at: https://lnkd.in/evMDu9Ng#scicomm #sciencexperiments #scienceatschool #madeinLuxembourg #SciLuxonTourMichele Weber

Post-Easter Egg Post 😊We must admit that we didn’t spend enough time to really say that this was a proper scientific search, but every year we are surprised to discover that in our usual supermarkets and grocery shops in Luxembourg we cannot find white eggs to die them for Easter. And no, we don’t want to buy eggs already coloured by someone else.As this year was no different, after a pretty long search we ended up asking ourselves – how come some chicken eggs are brown and some are white? It seems that it is mostly related with the hen breed (usually white hens lay white eggs and brown hens, brown). In some sources they also claim that the colour of the hen’s earlobes plays a role. Lastly, another determining factor can be the hen’s age – older hens tend to lay paler eggs. And no, the egg colour does not affect the nutritional value of it.In exchange for this little piece of science, please share in comments places in Luxembourg where we can buy white eggs 😉Sources:British Hen Welfare Trust (https://lnkd.in/evauFvTj)BBC Science Focus Magazine (https://lnkd.in/ezJz2qvX)American Egg Board (https://lnkd.in/ez78fq6M)#Easter #shoppinginLuxembourg #eggs #foodscience #SciLuxonTour

🥼In certain episodes we tend to wander a little bit more in the world of science. This was very much the case in the latest one in which we interviewed a theoretical physicist - Prof. Massimiliano Esposito, but also a physical chemist - Dr. Emanuele Penocchio (Northwestern University). Both experts took us on a fascinating journey through non-equilibrium thermodynamics and chemical engines, focusing especially on kinesins. We also spent time going back to basics, as it is the usual approach in this podcast.🎧Remember to listen to it when it goes live on Tuesday, 26th March at 6 am CET. Available on all major podcasting platforms.🇱🇺 As usual proudly powered by Research Luxembourg and recording at the MediaCentre of the University of Luxembourg.#thermodynamics #theoreticalphysics #kinesins #sciencepodcast
