Jay Paul Molinere was born Roland Molinere III on August 20, 1988, in Grand Bois, Louisiana, United States. He is the son of R.J. Molinere and Stacey Molinere.

Jay Paul wanted to become a boxer from the age of six and R.J. himself as an athlete supported the career choice. At the age of 10, Jay had a setback when he suffered an unfortunate accident. Jay was on a family camping trip during the Fourth of July holiday when he got hit by a malfunctioned jet ski. Jay suffered l 6-to-8 inch fracture in his skull. The injury put him in a coma for three days and the doctor had no idea if he could talk again. After extensive recovery, Jay began to speak again.

Talking about his education endeavors, Jay attended South Terrebonne High School where he was active in sports. He played football for four seasons as a defensive back. Following graduation in 2006, Jay enrolled at Fletcher Technical Community College to pursue an anesthesiology degree.

Jay Paul had a good run in his amateur boxing and won several accolades. He has participated in over 30 fights during his boxing career. In the weight class of 152 pounds, Jay won Gulf Coast Boxing Championship (2008), Golden Gloves Division Championship (2009), and, Arnold Sports Festival Championship in Columbus, Ohio (2010).

In addition to a gold medal at Arnold Sports Festival hosted by former California governor and famous movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jay was one of nine people awarded a $2,000 scholarship for boxing excellence provided by the Columbus Rotary. Later Paul explored his sports interest in mixed martial arts. His father RJ Molinere who is a two-time arm wrestling world champion helped him train for MMA fights.

Coming from the generation of gator hunters Jay Paul was exposed to the tricks of the trade by his father RJ Molinere. Jay would join his father in the swamp of Louisiana as early as three years of age. From raiding the swamp to learning throwing punches Jay Paul did it all during childhood.
