At Parkside, tentative move-in dates will start on Friday September 1, 2023. You will receive more information about specific move-in dates upon receiving a residence offer. Residence staff will be available to help you and answer questions on your move-in day. More information about move-in will be provided after students have completed their application and occupancy agreement. "I might be late for Move-In. How long do I have to move into my room?" The Parkside residence is not available earlier than September 1. If you need to move in earlier, you will need to make separate arrangements for accommodation before the move-in date and cover the costs yourself. You can consult Housing Services’ list of nearby hotels and hostels for options. Family members cannot stay in your room/suite, but they can arrange to stay in nearby accommodations. Yes, students staying at Parkside can stay in their room over the winter break period (December 21, 2023, to January 1, 2024) at no additional cost. Students may be required to follow a separate process to be added to the residence’s winter break stayover list. Residence fees will be billed on your student account invoice in ACORN. You can find instructions on how to make a fee payment on the Student Accounts website. No payments are to be made to Parkside directly. We expect over 200 U of T students will stay in the University’s additional student residence accommodation at Parkside. Yes, Parkside has a full team of residence life staff who live on site to provide support and programming for students. Residence staff provide residents with a safe, vibrant, and cooperative community that is conducive to academic success and personal development. These staff members help to build a sense of community between students, host social events and plan outings. Parkside has a mandatory meal plan that is included in your occupancy fees. Students staying in suite-style accommodations at Parkside will stay in either (i) a limited number of double-occupancy rooms with ensuite washroom or (ii) in single rooms within a 2-bedroom suite with ensuite washroom (but no kitchen). Students living at Parkside Student Residence will be placed in either a limited number of double-occupancy rooms or in a single-occupancy bedroom within a 2-bedroom suite with shared ensuite washroom but no kitchen. At Parkside, students in double-occupancy rooms will each have a double-sized (full) bed. Students with a single room in a 2-bedroom suite will each have a single-sized (twin) bed. At Parkside, mini fridges and microwaves are allowed in suites without kitchens. At Parkside, study lounges and quiet study rooms are available throughout the buildings. At Parkside, students will have access to fitness centres inside the building. Students will also have access to pools and fitness areas on-campus at Hart House, the Athletic Centre, and the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. At Parkside, students are responsible for cleaning and keeping their assigned unit and all furnishings in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. Parkside features card-operated laundry facilities. If you are experiencing difficulties in your relationship with your roommate, you should approach your Community Assistant (CA) as soon as possible. They can assist you in identifying communication strategies or, if necessary, they may intervene if you and your roommate are unable to resolve the situation on your own. CAs are trained to help residents manage roommate conflicts. Pets are not allowed in the residence. Students living in residence who will be accompanied by a service animal should contact additional.residences@utoronto.ca prior to moving in. To help with this process, it is also recommended that students register their service animal with the University. Security is a priority at Parkside. Parkside’s front desk is staffed 24/hr day, and on-site security is available 24/7 to perform regular patrols and support students and the Residence Life team. The Residence Life teams live on-site and are available to support students and any emergency issues that may arise and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number. U of T Campus Safety will also attend if necessary. There are also numerous security cameras on property both inside and outside the building. The University of Toronto TravelSafer Program provides safe escorts to and from any building on the St. George Campus, including CParkside and nearby transit stations/stops. TravelSafer is available 7 days a week, 365 days a year from dusk till dawn. Call 416-978-SAFE (7233) any time to arrange for patrollers to come to your location during service hours. It is also possible to arrange for regular walks with the same pick-up location and time each week. At Parkside, you have the option to reserve a residence space for the 8-month academic year (i.e., September to April) or for the summer period as well (i.e., 12-months, September – August).
